Culture & Growth
Our team members bring our mission of partnering for healing and a healthy future to life — it’s their creativity that drives innovation, their skill that advances excellence and their compassion that helps patients and families cope with the unexpected.
At MultiCare, we are on a continuous journey to foster a vibrant, supportive workplace where all employees feel a sense of belonging and have opportunities to further their careers.
Through a variety of programs and initiatives in 2025, we aimed to invest in the professional development and well-being of our employees while strengthening the health care workforce:
- Pulse Heart Institute’s new School of Cardiac Ultrasound improves access to cardiac sonography and creates a new pathway for employees to further their careers.
- The Indigo Urgent Care fellowship helps recently graduated physician assistants and nurse practitioners grow as clinicians.
- MultiCare’s new internal medicine residency program in Spokane will expand primary care access and strengthen local training opportunities for aspiring doctors.
- Our Global Outreach Program helps employees reconnect with their calling while bringing care and technology to underserved communities.
Pulse Heart Institute tackles cardiac sonographer shortage
Across the country, a shortage of cardiac sonographers jeopardizes timely access to echocardiograms — a test that plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions. Pulse Heart Institute launched the satellite School of Cardiac Ultrasound, in partnership with the Arizona Heart Foundation, to address this critical workforce gap. In 2025, the first cohort of students graduated, with 75 percent of graduates going on to fulfill critical roles at MultiCare and Pulse.
Indigo Urgent Care fellowship builds successful teams
MultiCare’s Indigo Urgent Care Fellowship is a 14-week program that helps recently graduated physician assistants and nurse practitioners gain confidence and hands-on experience while on the job, easing their transition into this fast-paced niche of medicine. Fellowship graduate Kirra Mandel, PA-C, now has the opportunity to give back to the program that supported her by mentoring incoming fellows.
Training the next generation of primary care physicians in Spokane
MultiCare is launching a new internal medicine residency program in Spokane to help address the primary care shortage in Eastern Washington and improve access to physician training in the region. The program reached an important milestone in 2025 — securing $500,000 in state capital funding to support the renovation of the residency teaching clinic.
MultiCare’s Global Outreach Program reignites purpose through service
Part of MultiCare’s provider wellness initiative, the Global Outreach Program extends compassionate care to underserved communities while helping team members reconnect with their sense of purpose and experience the joy of giving back. In 2024 and 2025, participants in the program traveled to Trujillo, Peru, which has one of the lowest physician-to-patient ratios in the world, to provide free medical care and support technology needs.
