Rural & Urban Underserved Experiences

TFM is committed to preparing residents to serve both rural and urban underserved communities. All of our faculty bring prior experiences in these settings to their teaching. Our clinic population is quite diverse and provides in-depth experience in an urban setting. Our full scope training provides an excellent base for any setting. We offer structured exposures to the local community services needed to provide holistic support to our patients, and we have a social worker to support your efforts to connect patients with needed resources. We have dedicated R1, R2 and R3 rotations in rural or urban practices chosen by the resident for additional exposure to the realities of and training needs for practice in these settings. These rotations have associated curriculums to enhance your knowledge and insights, and a portion of our formal didactics is dedicated to the unique knowledge and skills required in underserved communities. Our faculty provide excellent mentorship as you envision your future. We are proud that our graduates move on to live the mission.
