Teaching Medical Students

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”

Tacoma Family Medicine residents have ample opportunity to be involved in the teaching mission of the residency.

Family Medicine

TFM is a teaching site for the University of Washington required third year clerkship in family medicine. The students primarily work with faculty, but also have an opportunity to work with residents during their inpatient week.

TFM also offers sub-internships for fourth year medical students. Sub-interns spend two weeks on the Family Medicine Inpatient service and two weeks on the OB service. Senior residents work directly with the sub-interns to manage patients on the inpatient service.

Pediatrics

Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital is a rotation site for the University of Washington required third year rotation in pediatrics. TFM R2s serve as senior residents on the Inpatient Pediatrics Service (IPS) team and, in this role, directly supervise and teach the UW medical students.
