Puget Sound Region

  • Ortho patients: age 17+
  • Sports med patients: age 5+

Work-up preferred: X-ray, MRI, EMG for CT

  • X-rays and MRIs required for consults by some surgeons — you’ll be advised at scheduling.
  • Trial of PT if initial standard of care for injury

Offered in Auburn and Covington with Linnea Welton, MD, Hip Preservation and Sports Surgery Specialist

  • Who Is a good candidate?
    • Hip preservation may be appropriate for patients between the ages of 15 and 50 who want to maintain an active lifestyle.
  • What is initial management of most hip pain BEFORE a patient should see a hip preservation specialist?
    • Standard hip X-rays to evaluate for arthritis
    • At least 6 weeks of formal physical therapy and NSAIDs
    • Potentially a corticosteroid injection into the injured or painful area

Patients 8 years +

At the following clinic locations: Auburn, Allenmore, West Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Good Samaritan, Covington

  • Treatment of fractures and other musculoskeletal injuries of the upper and lower extremities
  • Sports-related concussions
  • Ultrasound-guided injection therapies (PRP, Tenex, steroid and other injections)
  • Sports nutrition counseling, body composition assessment
  • Safe return to sports
  • Athlete or exercise related medical concerns

Patients age 16+; Ingrown toenails only – age 2+

Tacoma and Gig Harbor

Treatment for a range of foot and ankle conditions including:

  • Bunions, hammer toes, flatfoot= ages 16+
  • Foot and ankle arthritis, fractures and sprains
  • Foot deformities= ages 16 +
  • Sports-related foot and ankle injuries
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Biomechanical evaluations to help diagnose problems, as well as provide orthotics services to help correct foot issues.

For patients with back or neck pain with or without radicular pain and no relief from conservative measures (medication, physical therapy), spinal stenosis/degenerate disc disease (DDD), spinal tumors, syrinx, chronic pain syndrome (consideration of spinal cord stimulator, placement/replacement of intrathecal pain pump), or tethered cord.

  • Epic users may refer directly to MultiCare Spine Surgery using Epic ID REF387 and include the physician, clinic or city name to expedite the referral.

For patients seen on-call, any ED follow up. Ortho trauma clinic services include:

  • Upper extremity fracture repair (excluding hand)
  • Lower extremity fracture repair
  • Pelvis & acetabular fracture repair
  • Fracture non-unions
  • Complex articular fractures

  • Auburn Medical Center and Covington Medical Center feature the ROSA Knee robotic system.
  • Good Samaritan Hospital features the VELYS Robotic Assisted Solution for knee replacement. Good Samaritan Hospital earned Advanced Joint Commission Certification for Hip and Knee Replacement
  • Allenmore Hospital features the VELYS and ROSA Knee robotic systems for knee replacement. Allenmore Hospital earned Advanced Joint Commission Certification for Hip and Knee Replacement.

Spokane Region

Deaconess and Valley hospitals offer the VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution for knee replacement, as well as the Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology for knee and hip replacement.

Valley Hospital has earned Advanced Joint Commission Certification for Hip and Knee Replacement, and Deaconess has Core certification.

Yakima Region

Referral preferred but not required. These 7 questions help prioritize acuity/urgency of consults and work to get them seen accordingly.

  • Is the injury acute or chronic?
  • What imaging has been obtained? XR, CT, MRI
  • Has the patient tried Physical Therapy?
  • Does the patient currently use nicotine?
  • What is the patient’s BMI?
  • Is the patient medically optimized/a good candidate for elective surgery
  • Has the patient had previous surgery on the affected area as referred?
