Hypertonicity in Children: Etiology, Evaluation & Management (On-Demand)
This Hypertonicity in Children: Etiology, Evaluation & Management online course addresses the etiology, evaluation, and management of hypertonicity in children. Causes of hypertonicity and explanation of spasticity and dystonia will be explored. Recognizing that children with cerebral palsy encompass a large population of children with hypertonicity, current information on the causes, risk factors, prevention of cerebral palsy, and treatment of children with cerebral palsy will be explored. Management strategies for hypertonicity addressing focal and global concerns as well as treatment of dystonia will be addressed.
The course is a pre-recorded two hours webinar, available on-demand to stream immediately following registration.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Define spasticity and dystonia.
- Review differential diagnosis for development of hypertonicity.
- Identify potential musculoskeletal changes in the setting of hypertonicity.
- Review range of hypertonicity treatments.
Presenter
John Forrest Bennett, MN, ARNP, PPCNP-BC, is a passionate, board certified, clinician with advanced training in pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation. He received his Master of Science in Nursing, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Washington. He has extensive experience collaborating with complex care teams to provide exceptional care to patients and families. He additionally is a driven leader with formal experience in hospital administration, as a medical director and supervisor of advanced practice providers, as well as informal experience regularly leading quality improvement initiatives.

Two Education Contact Hours and Clock Hours available (0.2 CEUs). Professionals will complete a post-test (with a passing score of 70% or better) prior to receiving a certificate.
