Terms like “quarantine,” “isolation” and “social distancing” are becoming a part of our everyday vocabulary as the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak continues to evolve, and that can feel scary. But these are important, protective measures to help reduce and slow transmission of COVID-19. By following them, you are likely saving lives.

And you can still stay connected to friends and family, even if you can’t visit them in person. Here are some ways to stay in touch with your social networks during the social isolation period.

Chat virtually

Use technology to socialize with friends and family. Connect with your network by using social media, video chat, texting — whatever form of virtual communication works best for you.

Write letters

When was the last time you mailed someone a letter? Find a pen pal and send letters back and forth. There are also countless blog services that are available and completely free. Create a blog between you and your loved ones and write virtual letters to each other.

Check-in with your neighbors

Develop a support system among your family and neighbors. Create a group text or phone tree and reach out occasionally to check-in with each other.

Engage in generosity

Join the MultiCare COVID-19 Volunteer Team and provide much-needed support from the safety of your home. Projects may include sewing, writing notes, making phone calls, art projects and more. You can help care teams fight the spread of COVID-19 in your community.

Create watchlists and playlists and share

Are there any good books, TV shows or music you’d recommend while social distancing? Share them with others to help pass the time.

We recognize that the situation surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak will continue to change. For the most updated information, resources and ways you can help, visit the MultiCare COVID-19 Resource Center. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
