SPOKANE – MultiCare Rockwood Clinic announced today that it will offer digital breast tomosynthesis at its Main Clinic, 400 E Fifth Ave in downtown Spokane, starting in late October 2017.

This will expand the existing service of Rockwood Clinic’s Breast Health Center, located in Spokane Valley, which has offered digital breast tomosynthesis since October 2015 and has been designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology since 2016.

Digital breast tomosynthesis, also known as 3D Mammography©, provides a better image of the breast, which often leads to early detection.

“Breast cancer awareness is so important and early detection is key for better patient outcomes,” explained Monica Blykowski-May, MD, Interim President of Rockwood Clinic. “We are excited to be able to continue offering 3D imaging at our Breast Health Center in the Valley and add the service to our Main Clinic downtown.”

Additionally, Rockwood’s Breast Health Center in the Spokane Valley will celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month with extended hours on October 4 and 26, when the clinic is accepting mammography patients until 7pm.

In addition to offering extended hours, mammogram patients will enjoy a free massage — courtesy of Heeling Hands — with light appetizers. On October 26 the clinic will also feature a special performance by local musician and breast cancer survivor Valerie Jeanne, as well as tours of the Breast Health Center.

“This is an exciting event that we look forward to every year,” Blykowski-May continued. “By offering extended hours and a fun atmosphere, we want to encourage women to have an annual exam and stress the importance of early detection.”
