Facilities from two MultiCare lines were awarded for design excellence in the sixth annual International Interior Design Association Healthcare Interior Design Competition in October.

Indigo Urgent Care Clinics were recognized for excellence in the “Ambulatory – Urgent Care Center” category for their design by the Tacoma firm BCRA, Inc. Adolescent Behavioral Health at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, designed by Clark/Kjos Architects in Portland, OR, was recognized in the “Hospitals – Psychiatric” category.

This competition honors and celebrates outstanding originality and excellence in the design and furnishings of health care interior spaces.

“Commercial interior designers play a critical role in the health care industry, providing evidence-based solutions that contribute to positive patient outcomes and the well-being of caregivers and health care employees,” said International Interior Design Association Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst. “This year’s winners exemplify exceptional health care design that puts patients and their caregivers at ease while creating positive, healing environments.”

MultiCare opened its first Indigo Urgent Care clinic in June 2016 and now has more than 15 Indigo clinics throughout the Puget Sound area, including several facilities in Seattle. Indigo’s concept is to present a high-end health care experience, catering to individuals who want high quality care — fast. The soothing and modern design ambiance resembles a coffee shop with amenities such as complimentary coffee, water, Wi-Fi service and charging stations.

The 27-bed Adolescent Behavioral Health at Tacoma General is the first program of its kind in Pierce County; it opened in November 2016. The unit was designed to be a modern, inviting space with private rooms and open social areas, and includes state-of-the-art safety features to protect patients and staff.
