9 ways to be more philanthropic in 2020
By McKenna Ownby
It’s resolution season, and for many that means new fitness goals, healthier eating habits and other commitments to change for the better in 2020. But what if you could contribute to improving your community as part of those aspirations, too?
We can help with that.
Through MultiCare, there are countless ways to provide a healthier future for your friends, family and neighbors by giving back — and not just financially.
Here are nine ways to make 2020 your most philanthropic year yet.
1. Become a MultiCare volunteer.
Volunteers play an important role in promoting MultiCare’s mission of partnering for healing and a healthy future.
Opportunities are available for a wide variety of interests at every MultiCare campus, including adult care, pediatrics, gift and thrift shops, hospice care and more. You can even sign up to volunteer alongside your pet, if they’re a certified therapy animal.

4. Become a recurring donor.
Automate your giving by setting up a recurring donation to any one of our six foundations:
- Mary Bridge Children’s Foundation
- MultiCare Health Foundation
- Good Samaritan Foundation
- South King Health Foundation
- MultiCare Inland Northwest Foundation
- MultiCare Behavioral Health Foundation
5. Become a legacy donor.
One of the easiest ways to leave a lasting impact on your community is through the power of planned giving — also called “legacy” giving.
You can make a charitable donation through your will, trust, IRA or estate plan when you choose to give as a legacy donor.
Find an option that works for you at multicarelegacy.org.
6. Create your own fundraiser.
Do you have a personal story or experience that drives your passion to support kids receiving care at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital?
Get creative and turn that passion into your very own fundraiser at fundraisemb.org.
7. Ask your employer about gift matching.
Many employers have their own gift matching programs, which means they’ll match any charitable contribution you make up to a specific amount.
Find out whether your own employer has a program, then visit supportmulticare.org to learn more about the MultiCare causes most in need of your help.
8. Make an in-kind donation.
Want to help make hospital visits just a little bit brighter for kids at Mary Bridge Children’s?
Check out the hospital’s Amazon Wish List to donate an in-demand item like Play-Doh, colored pencils, Legos and more.
9. Participate in a community fundraiser.
MultiCare is grateful for the many individuals and organizations that sponsor fundraising events and promotions across our communities to benefit our hospitals and programs.
