MultiCare is making a long-term commitment to professional sports in the Tacoma area with today’s announcement of sponsorship agreements with the Tacoma Rainiers, Tacoma Defiance (formerly Sounders 2) and the Reign.

The health care system will begin sponsorship for the Defiance and Reign teams as they move to Tacoma, while extending an ongoing sponsorship with the Rainiers. Additionally, MultiCare will serve as the official kit sponsor for the Defiance and official medical partner of the Reign.

In addition to being the presenting partner of all Defiance home and away USL jerseys, MultiCare is set to feature prominently as part of the new soccer-specific stadium in the years to come. The cornerstone of the partnership will be a MultiCare-operated 60,000 square-foot, best-in-class medical facility that will be attached to the brand-new Cheney Stadium, providing a range of medical services for the teams and the public.

“MultiCare has a long history of seeking out like-minded organizations focused on building active and healthy communities — we are truly honored to support Cheney Stadium, the Rainiers, Defiance and Reign and work together to grow our region into an even more vital, attractive place to live, work and play,” says Bill Robertson, President and CEO of MultiCare. “This joint development project is both a great opportunity to expand local professional sports in the region and to expand health care services in this neighborhood and help keep our community well.”

The Defiance and Reign sponsorships will be in place for 10 and four years respectively, while the current Rainiers sponsorship will extend to 2028.
