Rock the Foundation event will help care teams prepare for success through simulation education

Advanced medical simulation provides realistic experiences for health care professionals to learn and practice in a safe, controlled setting — one that eliminates the risk to human life. You can support this critical training by registering for MultiCare Health Foundation’s Rock the Foundation event on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021.

In 2020, 459 MultiCare nurses bravely volunteered to serve their communities by working in COVID-19 care units. They often found themselves in new, unfamiliar roles.

Fortunately, MultiCare has advanced medical simulation to help individuals and teams face any challenge —including COVID-19 care — together. Thanks to virtual and computer-based scenarios, fine/gross motor skills training, role-playing and lifelike manikins that mimic human respiratory systems, care providers mastered new techniques quickly and effectively. This clinical training model helped them repeat and refine processes until a skill became part of muscle memory.

With simulation, new teams also learned to communicate, collaborate and manage crises on the fly. Developing these skills leads to improved teamwork and better patient outcomes.

Championing care team training during Rock the Foundation

Moving forward, MultiCare plans to help care teams continue to train and respond to out-of-the-ordinary, high-stakes incidents by growing its education program. To support these goals, MultiCare Health Foundation is hosting its signature fundraising event, Rock the Foundation, on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, and simulation programs are the beneficiary.

Over the years, this event has generated more than $5 million dollars in support of important community causes across the South Sound. These include cancer care, hospice care, the neonatal intensive care unit at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, clinical research and behavioral health.

In 2021, the event will be held virtually and honor our care teams’ unprecedented year by investing in them and their training. The evening’s festivities include a limited live auction, a celebration of COVID-19 care teams, an opportunity to “raise the paddle” for advanced simulation training and an acoustic performance from Grammy Award-winning artist, Bryan White.
