What is a nurse navigator?
Nurse navigators are oncology (cancer) nurses who specialize in guiding patients through the steps of cancer treatment and survivorship. From making appointments to lending a caring ear, our nurse navigators do everything possible to keep your cancer treatment moving forward.
Nurse navigator teams are available at all MultiCare cancer center locations and ready to help before your treatment begins. With their many years of experience, our nurse navigators can anticipate your needs and connect you with information and services precisely when you need them.
Our nurse navigators will truly get to know you as a person. You can call them any time you have a question or concern, and don’t be surprised when they call you between appointments to see how you are doing.
Whether in person or by phone, our nurse navigator team provides several services:
- Explaining your diagnosis and helping you understand how different specialists work together on your health care team
- Providing personalized care consistent with your wishes by learning your cancer care preferences
- Coordinating procedures, specialist visits and treatments
- Arranging additional services, such as blood tests or integrative therapy
- Providing emotional support when you feel overwhelmed
- Connecting you with other specialists, including our cancer social workers, psychologists or dietitians, as well as cancer support services
