Help for Substance Use Disorders

Your partner on the path to recovery

It takes courage to seek help for substance use disorders (SUDs), also referred to as chemical dependency, drug/alcohol dependence or drug/alcohol addiction. But you are not alone.

At MultiCare Behavioral Health, we will work with you on every step of your recovery journey.

Why Choose Us

MultiCare Behavioral Health offers one of the largest SUD treatment programs in Pierce County, serving our community since 2011.

We offer:

  • Person-centered care: Recognizing that every person takes a different path to recovery, we will work with you on individualized treatment plans that achieve your goals and honor your preferences.
  • Confidentiality: Like all our mental health programs, our SUD program offers the strictest level of confidentiality.
  • Expertise: Our team of state-certified Substance Use Disorder Professionals (SUDPs) have expert knowledge of SUDs, treatment planning and relapse prevention. Our team is highly qualified to support you on your recovery journey.

How We Help

We provide services with two levels of care: outpatient and intensive outpatient SUD treatment. If you require inpatient services, we will refer you to an appropriate external program. An initial assessment will help you to decide which level is best for you. We also offer court-ordered SUD counseling.

We provide collaborative services that meet you where you are and help guide you where you want to go. We partner with you and other professionals to build a comprehensive plan that will give you the highest likelihood of success. Treatment options and strategies may include, but are not limited to:

  • Partnering with medical providers to coordinate Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) when indicated for opioid and/or alcohol SUDs.
  • Referral to withdrawal management services
  • Abstinence-based models, i.e., AA, NA, etc.
  • Relapse prevention
  • SUD education
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Harm reduction strategies
  • Mindfulness and art therapy

Next steps

Simply walk in to one of our clinics for an initial assessment or call the MultiCare Behavioral Health Access Center at 253-697-8400 to make an appointment.

  • Substance use disorder assessments: In this initial step, we work with you to identify the ways in which substance use is impacting your life and creating barriers to meeting your goals. After an assessment, our SUD professionals will recommend the appropriate level of treatment.
  • Driving under the influence (DUI) assessments (available at the Puyallup location only): This court-ordered assessment works with you to identify how substance use is negatively impacting your life.
  • When you arrive for your assessment appointment, please bring a photo ID.
  • A urine sample will be collected for a drug screen as part of the assessment process and may be requested intermittently throughout your care.
