Virtual Obstetrics & Gynecology Care

Virtual pregnancy care

Today, many people are looking for more convenient access to the care they need. That’s why we’ve introduced a virtual care option for pregnant patients. You get the personalized care you need in a way that’s convenient and easily accessible.

If you choose the Virtual OB Visits option, your first prenatal visit will be in person with the MultiCare pregnancy care provider of your choice — such as an OB/GYN, Certified Nurse-Midwife or Family Medicine OB provider — and will include your provider taking your medical history and performing a physical exam. Prenatal visits after your first appointment will alternate between virtual visits with a MultiCare advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) via your computer and scheduled visits with your MultiCare provider at their office.

A virtual visit offers you great flexibility in terms of hours and location. Virtual visits are scheduled appointments at times that are most convenient for you, and they may include any of your family members. Through MyChart, you will be provided access to your personalized interactive MyPregnancy dashboard, web tools and other resources.

How Virtual OB Visits work

If you choose this care option, your provider team will step you through how things work, but here’s a quick overview:

  • Your provider’s office will provide you with a monitoring kit for you to use at home. We have partnered with a baby Doppler heart rate monitor company, Baby Beat. They will send you a Doppler monitor and instructions for use at home during your pregnancy.
  • Before each virtual visit, you will weigh yourself.  During your virtual visit, you will take your own blood pressure with provided cuffs and then position your Doppler monitor so the provider can count your baby’s heart rate. The provider will document your virtual visit in your medical record and forward it to your standard provider.
  • If there are any problems or concerns, the both providers will coordinate to schedule you in person for a follow-up visit.
  • During your virtual visit, your provider also provides education, discusses your upcoming pregnancy milestones and answers any questions you have.

Virtual menopause care

Menopause occurs 12 months after your last period. At this phase of life, your ovaries have stopped releasing eggs and producing most estrogen and other hormones. On average in the United States, menopause begins around age 51. Yet troublesome symptoms may arise in the years preceding menopause — a transition period known as perimenopause.
