Paperless Billing

MultiCare has updated MyChart users to paperless billing

MyChart paperless billing at MultiCare

MultiCare switched to paperless billing for active MyChart users on June 29, 2023. MultiCare patients who use MyChart will no longer receive paper bills* and all billing statement notifications will be sent by email and from the MyChart app.

Paperless billing statements are more secure for our patients and better for the planet. Plus, viewing and paying bills online is easy, whether you are using the MyChart website or MyChart app.

What this means for our patients

If you have a MyChart account and have not previously opted out of paperless billing*, you will no longer receive a paper bill in the mail. You will be notified of new billing statements by email and the MyChart mobile app. MultiCare also sends balance notifications to customers via email with direct pay links.

You may also choose to receive billing notifications via text message by updating your communications preference settings in MyChart.

How to opt out and request paper statements

Patients may opt out of paperless billing at any time to switch back to receiving paper billing statements in the mail. Learn how by following these instructions.

Frequently asked questions

MultiCare switched our patients who use MyChart to paperless billing on June 29, 2023. Learn more about this change, as well as other MyChart billing features, below.

If I no longer receive a paper bill, how will I know I have a payment due?

MultiCare will notify you when you have a new billing statement by email. For this reason, it is very important to make sure the email address listed for you in your MyChart account is correct. You will also get a billing statement notice from the MyChart app, if you use it.

MultiCare also sends balance notifications to customers via email with direct pay links.

You may also choose to receive billing and balance notifications by text message. Learn how below.

Can I get text message notifications in addition to email?

Yes. MyChart is able to send text message notifications about billing statements and balances. You may opt into those notifications by logging into MyChart and updating your communication preferences:

  1. Visit the “Communications Preferences” screen in MyChart. If you are not already signed in, you’ll be prompted to do so. You can also navigate to this screen through the main menu, toward the bottom of the menu options.
  2. Under details, click on “Billing” to see all your billing communication options
  3. Click on “Advanced Settings”
  4. Under the “Balance Updates” and “Statement” sections, click the switch next to “Text message” to move it from off/grey to on/green to receive your balance updates and billing statement notifications by text.
  5. Click the green “Save changes” button at the bottom of the screen.

Tip: Select email and text in all billing-related sections to ensure you don’t miss important billing updates from MultiCare.

If I no longer receive a paper statement, how do I pay my bill?

It’s easy to pay your bill using the MyChart website or app. Balances and statements can be found in the Billing section of MyChart after you log into your account. You can pay by credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay or even set up a payment plan with CarePayment at any time within MyChart.

Payments may also be made over the phone by calling 800-919-1936.

Billing and balance notifications sent via email and text often include direct payment links as well.

What if I want to keep getting paper statements?

To switch back to paper statements, log into MyChart and follow these steps:

  1. From the main Menu drop-down, select “Billing Summary” under “Billing”
  2. Scroll down the page and select “cancel paperless billing.”
  3. Click the “cancel paperless” button on the confirmation screen within the app, or the green “receive paper statements” button from the website.

Future billing statements will be sent to you by mail. You may switch back to paperless billing at any time.

I have already opted out of paperless billing. Will this change affect that?

No. MyChart users who have opted out of paperless billing previously will continue to get paper statements. You may change that selection at any time in your MyChart account.

What if I can’t pay my entire bill right now?

MultiCare partners with CarePayment to provide a zero-interest payment plan option to those who need help paying their medical bills over time. You can enroll in CarePayment directly in MyChart or on the CarePayment MultiCare patient site.

MultiCare also offers financial assistance for those who qualify.

* You will continue to get a paper bill if you have previously opted out of paperless billing in MyChart. Bills for services provided to pediatric patients who do not have an adult guarantor (who are not on a parent or guardian’s health insurance) will also continue to be sent as a paper bill.
