Capital Medical Center joins MultiCare Health System

MultiCare Capital Medical Center

MultiCare Health System welcomes Capital Medical Center to the family on April 1 with the acquisition of the Olympia-based hospital.

This expansion will add 700 Capital Medical Center employees to MultiCare, the largest community-based, locally governed health care system in the state of Washington.

“We’re excited to add Capital Medical Center to our existing network of care in Thurston County and provide our community with more choices, better access and better coordination,” said Bill Robertson, president and CEO of MultiCare Health System. “Expanding access to care allows us to continue to strive toward improving the economic, social, educational and health status of the diverse populations we serve.”

MultiCare purchased the ownership interest in Capital Medical Center from LifePoint Health, as well as the small percentage of ownership that was held by a group of community physicians and UW Medicine.

With 100 percent ownership, MultiCare will be able to transition Capital Medical Center to non-profit status over time, which will enhance the hospital’s ability to invest in the community and ensure patients have access to high-quality health care and financial assistance.

“MultiCare is a life-long learning organization and we look forward to learning more about — and from — our new colleagues and patients in the coming weeks and months,” said Will Callicoat, president of MultiCare Capital Medical Center.

Callicoat, a long-time resident of Olympia, started his career in Capital Medical Center’s finance department in 2003, ultimately serving as Capital Medical Center’s controller before moving on to the Washington State Hospital Association and in 2017 joining MultiCare. Callicoat also currently serves as MultiCare’s Thurston County market leader and has responsibility for MultiCare operations throughout the county.

Capital Medical Center will now be known as MultiCare Capital Medical Center.

Patients will notice some changes in signage, websites and correspondence, but they will continue to access services from the providers they know and trust just as they do today.
