MultiCare Health System Board Selects Two New Members

MultiCare Health System announced today that it has chosen two new members to serve on its Board of Directors. Robin J. Thomashauer and Dr. Tariq Salam, will begin their work with the board on Nov. 11, 2020.

Robin Thomashauer has led industry collaboration on initiatives and products that simplify health care for nearly 20 years as Founding President of CAQH, a non-profit alliance that aims to streamline health care operations. Thomashauer will bring her extensive national health care and health plan experience to the board through a one-year community board seat. Thomashauer previously served in key leadership positions for several health systems and has served on a broad spectrum of health care boards, including the National eHealth Collaborative, the Markle Foundation’s Connecting for Health initiative, and the Jewish Social Service Agency.

Dr. Salam, a Cardiac Electrophysiologist, has treated patients at MultiCare for more than 17 years and will serve a one-year board term in an employed physician seat. Dr. Salam currently serves as Medical Director of Heart Rhythm Services with MultiCare’s Pulse Heart Institute, serves as Chair of the Washington State Clinical Outcomes Assessment Program (COAP), and is a member of Pulse Heart Institute’s Board of Directors. He is also a principal investigator in a variety of cardiology-focused research trials through the MultiCare Institute for Research & Innovation. Dr. Salam is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.

“Robin and Tariq, two incredibly dedicated, capable and experienced health care leaders, were natural choices to step into these roles,” said MultiCare President and CEO Bill Robertson. “I am pleased that they have agreed to join MultiCare’s board and help lead our organization to become the Pacific Northwest’s highest value system of health.”

“We are delighted that Tariq and Robin are joining our organization,” said MultiCare Board Chair John Wiborg. “They each possess a passion for innovation and serving others, and I’m confident their contributions on the board will further advance MultiCare’s work to provide accessible, quality health care to the communities we serve.”

Thomashauer and Dr. Salam join the board after an extensive and competitive selection process led by the board’s Nominating & Governance Effectiveness Committee and will build on the foundation MultiCare has laid as the largest community-based, locally governed health system in the state of Washington.

MultiCare’s Board of Directors is made up of community members who volunteer their time and talents to ensure our communities have access to health care. Dr. Salam and Thomashauer replace Dr. Rob Roth, who retired from both clinical practice and his role on the MultiCare Board after many years of invaluable service to our community and MultiCare, and Dr. Bob Irwin, who has stepped down from his role on the MultiCare Board but will continue to serve as the Chair of the MultiCare Board Quality & Safety Committee.
