Essential job requirements for appointment, reappointment, retention and certification
The following list of tasks and attributes are representative of those required of a resident in Family Medicine at East Pierce Family Medicine. The list is not meant to be all-inclusive, nor does it constitute all academic performance measures or graduation standards. It does not preclude the residency from temporarily restructuring resident duties, as it deems appropriate, for residents with acute illness, injury, or other circumstances of a temporary nature. Due process procedures as defined in the EPFM Residency Manual will be followed in addressing alleged deficiencies.

Prerequisites
-
- Medical doctorate from an allopathic or osteopathic medical school.
- Passing score on USMLE/COMLEX Part I or equivalent.
- Eligible for Washington State Physician and Surgeon licensure.
- Eligible to participate in all federally funded health care programs and have no pending proceedings which could limit or preclude such participation.
- Have no felony convictions (past or pending) and no convictions for any crime of moral turpitude.
- Free of state or federal restrictions on the ability to prescribe controlled substances.

Motor skills

- Manual dexterity to perform common inpatient and outpatient procedures, history and physical exams, to use a keyboard, and to write legibly, with reasonable accommodations.
- Perform CPR.
- Move around the hospital and its campus to respond to routine and emergent situations.
- Physical stamina to work for periods of up to 30 hours with call duties and follow-up clinical care.
- Able to deliver a baby.
- Use sterile technique and universal precautions.

- Assess patients using sight, hearing, and touch.
- Read small print with normal corrective lenses.
- Discern soft-spoken English.

- Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and colleagues, including listening skills, information gathering, explaining medical information.
- Present well-organized cases to resident colleagues and supervising faculty.
- Recognize and respond to emotions.
- Ability to write, converse, and comprehend English.
- Timely completion of records adequate for medical, legal, and billing purposes, and consistent with sponsoring institution bylaws and EPFM requirements.
- Transfer patient care responsibilities through verbal/written check out with full and timely disclosure of relevant information.
