The hospital
MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital is where EFPM’s inpatient rotations take place. Residents complete inpatient medicine and pediatrics, obstetrics, emergency medicine, surgery, and other rotations at this location.
Good Samaritan is a community-based hospital. It is licensed for 286 beds and is a level III trauma center. It has two cardiac catheterization labs, 30 cardiac specialty unit beds, a level I trauma rehabilitation center, a level II special care nursery, 12 operating rooms, a 40-bed critical care center, and a 24-bed progressive care unit. It has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the state with over 68,000 visits in 2012. The Labor and Delivery Department is very active as well with over 2,200 deliveries in 2012.
The hospital has both a call room and a doctor’s lounge. Residents receive a stipend for meals in the cafeteria while on call. In the spirit of the Northwest, Good Samaritan has its own Starbucks Coffee Shop for those long hours on call.
Residents use the electronic health record program EPIC both in the clinic and in the hospital. The EMR is accessible by smart devices. EPFM residents receive a stipend toward such devices. As a residency in the WWAMI Network, residents have access to The University of Washington’s Healthlinks, which serves as a great resource both in the hospital and clinic.
