Dr. Niraj Patel is a nationally-recognized, fellowship trained cornea, cataract, and vision correction specialist who practices at Pacific Northwest Eye Associates in Tacoma. He has been performing complex eye surgical procedures for more than 19 years and has personally performed over 15,000 cases. He has been chosen for inclusion in "America's Top Ophthalmologists", as well as both Seattle Magazine's and Seattle Metropolitan's "Top Doctors" publications for nine years, an honor bestowed upon him by his peers.
A Phi Beta Kappa high honors (top 3%) graduate from the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science and the Arts, Dr. Patel went on to receive his medical degree with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors (top 5%) from the University of Michigan Medical School. He then completed an ophthalmology residency at the world renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, followed by a prestigious Fellowship in Cornea, Cataract, and Vision Correction surgery at the University of Utah’s John Moran Eye Center.
Dr. Patel has dedicated his practice to vision correction surgery, cataract surgery, and corneal diseases and surgery in addition to his work in general ophthalmology. Involved with vision correction surgery since 1996, Dr. Patel has extensive experience with Laser Vision Correction (LASIK and PRK), and he was the first surgeon in Western Washington to be certified for the Visian Implantable Contact Lens (ICL). He has lectured and taught residents and physicians from across the nation and has been involved in numerous research projects in the fields of cornea and refractive surgery.
Dr. Patel is board certified in ophthalmology and maintains many professional memberships and volunteers for many of these organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American College of Surgeons, Washington Academy of Eye Physicians, Washington State Medical Society, and Pierce County Medical Society.
Dr. Patel loves living in the Pacific Northwest with his wife and two children. He also enjoys golfing, hiking, and traveling in his free time.
