Program: COVID-19 Emergency Relief/Recovery Fund for CARES
A Step Ahead in Pierce County serves children aged birth to three with special needs. This grant will fund the emergency COVID-19 relief so the CARES Fund can continue to offer wraparound therapeutic services to aid families regardless of their ability to pay.
Amara
Program: Family Connections for Kids in Foster Care
Amara’s focus is to improve the well-being for children and families in foster care. Funding will provide essential support to implement targeted strategies to improve parent engagement through their existing programs and will be allocated towards paying the staff to implement these crucial programs.
Communities In Schools of Lakewood
Program: Integrated Student Support Site Coordination
These funds will be utilized for adding an additional Site Coordinator to provide dedicated support at Tillicum Elementary School.
Communities in Schools of Peninsula
Program: Tutors with Tails
The goal of the Tutors with Tails Reading program is to get students in a positive mindset, engaging them and helping them practice and gain confidence in their reading skills aimed at breathing new life into owners, breathe new life into the reading program with the engaging presence of a highly qualified volunteer and their animal. Funds will be used to continue the program, for volunteer recruitment, video production, copyright and fair use fees, books for program participants, and staffing costs for program implementation.
Communities in Schools of Puyallup
Program: Site Coordination
Funds from this grant will be used to help fund the implementation of the CIS model of site coordination in Puyallup School District elementary schools. The majority of funds go to support staff’s time coordinating programs, volunteers and services.
Communities in Schools of Tacoma
Program: Oakland School-Based Health Center
Funds will support the health and wellness program operations at Oakland High School. Such funding will support the CIS Health Coordinator position and program expenses to provide students and teen parents the opportunity to improve their health, well-being, positive behavior, and academic goals during the 2020-2021 school year.
FEEST (Food Empowerment Education & Sustainability Team)
Program: Youth-fed Health Food Solutions
FEEST (Food Empowerment Education & Sustainability Team) develops low income youth of color and immigrant and refugee youth leaders to change the landscape around health and healthy eating in their schools and school districts. Funds will be used to support program costs including supplies, materials, staff costs, outreach, transportation, and a portion towards stipends for their youth leaders for participation in the program.
Greentrike (formerly Children’s Museum of Tacoma)
Program: Play to Learn
Play to Learn (P2L) is a free, drop-in kindergarten readiness program with over 11 years of development and delivery across 24 P2L sites throughout Pierce County. Funding will help support the staff planning time necessary to modify the program to new virtual realities and in-person social distancing guidelines, and will fund the purchase of necessary program supplies, PPE, and other associated costs.
Hands On Children’s Museum
Program: Sensory Friendly Sundays & @Home Activity Kits with the Hands On Children’s Museum
Funding will be used to support the cost of core program staff, supplies and materials for Sensory Friendly Sundays. It will also support staff time and supplies for the development of monthly take-home art and science kits for children who are unable to attend Sensory Friendly Sundays, due to health concerns, family challenges, or intermittent Museum closures due to COVID-19.
Hilltop Artists
Program: Hilltop Artists Education Programs
This program offers sequential skill-building in glass and related arts through programs that operate during the school day, afterschool, on some Saturdays, and in the summer. Funds will be applied to Hilltop Artists’ education programs, covering a percentage of their supplies and equipment needs and teaching artists’ salaries.
Kids Discovery Museum
Program: Access
Funding will support participation in the Museums For All and Access program, providing free and reduced admission to the museum and its programming. This grant would ensure that all children have access to their programming, both within the facility and through the museum’s at-home and outreach programs.
Lindquist Dental Clinic for Children
Program: Dental care for low income Puget Sound children and youth in need
The children and youth specifically affected by this grant would be those that qualify for the Uncompensated Care Fund (“the fund”). Some families pay on a sliding fee scale, based on family size and income and some qualify for total coverage. Funds from this grant would provide dental care for approximately 209 children and youth per year.
Mountain View Community Center
Program: Nutritious Food & Vital Services for Youth at MVCC
Each year the Mountain View Community Center hosts a Back to School event to provide students in the Edgewood, Fife and Puyallup community with backpacks and supplies for the coming school year. Funds would be used to purchase nutritious food, school supplies, educational books and project materials.
Northwest Infant Survival & SIDS Alliance (NISSA)
Program: SIDS/SUID – Unsafe Sleep Prevention & Crib Distribution
The program aims to reduce preventable infant deaths due to SIDS/SUID (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and/or Sudden Unexpected Infant Death) in Pierce County by promoting safe infant sleep practices. A $10,000 grant would purchase approximately 126 crib and sheet sets for families living in Pierce County.
Raising Girls
Program: Every Girl Counts: Ending Period Poverty
Periods are a fact of life and so is the need for menstrual products. Raising Girls is taking a proactive approach to tackling this issue. Funds would be used to help meet the growing need to address period poverty in the community. Raising Girls currently provides care bags to 20% of girls who need essential items and their hope is to reach 100%.
Reach Out and Read Washington
Program: Reach Out and Read in Washington State
Reach Out and Read gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read together. Grant funds will support the early literacy program at high-need clinics in King County and will be used to purchase children’s books, medical provider and staff training, program support, technical assistance, program quality evaluation, and coaching to clinics by local Reach Out and Read program staff. Program: Creating Safe, Healthy, Thriving Communities
Funds will be directed to their program expenses including staffing and purchasing materials for youth and neighborhood groups to complete projects that improve community environments.
South Sound Parent to Parent
Program: Sibshops
Sibshops is a family-based, informal healthcare approach for families raising children with a disability. Funds will be used to support a portion of the group facilitator’s salary to offer: 1. One in-person small group meeting per month for each age group; 2. Two virtual (Zoom) meetings per month for each age group. Funds will also purchase dinners for the in-person group meeting participants, facilitator and volunteers.
South Sound Reading Foundation
Program: Books for Kids Literacy Outreach & Family Engagement
This program delivers free books to children and educates families about the importance of reading together 20 minutes a day. Funds will be used to purchase books, literacy outreach materials, coordinate program activities, deliver books and education programs and evaluate programs (develop, administer and review surveys).
South Sound YMCA
Program: Increase Access to Child Care through Financial Aid Program
This grant will provide financial aid to children in the South Sound YMCA’s child care program during the upcoming school year.
Tacoma Urban League
Program: Girls With Purpose/Sisterhood in the City
Funds will be used for program coordination to include mentoring, management and reporting; printing costs and materials; and snacks to support the projects and activities in the Girls With Purpose Program/Sisterhood in the City throughout the rest of 2020.
The TEARS Foundation
Program: Infant Funeral & Child Loss Center
TEARS is there when families are faced with the sudden and unexpected crisis of the loss of a baby. Funds will be used for the following: $10,000 – for 20 infant funerals, $5,000 for operations of the Center for Child loss to offer sibling grief meetings, training for professionals, parent support groups, and offer free memorial ceremonies for families.
TOGETHER – Club House
Program: Club House before & after school and summer program
Club House delivers before- and after-school, as well as summertime academic support, enrichment, and social-emotional development in partnership with elementary and middle school students and families. Funding will support operating expenses such as staffing, continued training and professional development in equity and youth development, technology to support their work, and materials and supplies to deliver their programs and services.
TOGETHER – Community Schools
Program: Community Schools
The Community Schools initiative in Yelm will add a Community Schools Coordinator at Yelm High School. Funding for the Community Schools work serving Yelm school district will support operating expenses such as staffing, training and professional development, technology to support their work, materials and supplies, and more.
UTOPIA (United Territories of Pacific Islanders’ Alliance)
Program: Emergency Support for LGBTQ Pacific Islanders
The mission of UTOPIA (United Territories of Pacific Islanders’ Alliance) is to provide sacred spaces to strengthen the minds and bodies of Queer and Trans Pacific Islanders through community organizing, community care, civic engagement, and cultural stewardship. Funds will go directly towards project expenses, including staff time, transportation, materials and supplies.
Vashon Youth & Family Services
Program: 2021 Community Counseling
Funding will be used to support Vashon children receiving behavioral health counseling at VYFS through the Community Counseling project in 2021. Specifically, the requested $10,000 funding will provide at least 83 hours of counseling services for these young people.
YWCA Pierce County
Program: Youth Prevention and Support Programming
Funds from MultiCare will be used for program supplies and staff training for Healthy Love Prevention Groups, Teen Dating Violence Presentations, Kids’ Club, and YOU Group. Supplies include program equipment, materials and construction for program manuals and workbooks, program marketing supplies, art supplies, and incentive items for students who participate. -

Funding of $10,000 will support general operations. Support for their general operations would allow EFN to continue soliciting donated food, pay for food storage expenses at their Distribution Center, distribute food to their 82 Partner Programs, and will provide the community with 50,000 meals.

Food Insecurity

Program: The Salvation Army Food Banks
This funding would be used to combat food insecurity through The Salvation Army’s food banks in King County by providing groceries and meals to all those in need, including low-income and homeless families and those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound
Program: LIFT: Support for Youth in Struggling Families
The LIFT Program’s focus is to provide nutrition and other supports to children and their families so they can thrive. Funds will support the following: $10,000 Director of Family Support, $10,000 Milgard Family Eastside Branch Support (program, supplies, food); $10,000 Henry T. Schatz Branch Support (program, supplies, food).
Program: Food Lifeline Responds to COVID-19
Funding will be used to support the purchase of food, the creation of emergency food boxes, and the distribution of these boxes. These boxes are the most cost effective and distribution-friendly means of supplying food to their partner agencies and the general public.
Program: GRuB Garden Project
GRuB’s Garden Project increases food security through providing free backyard gardens to families with low income in their community, providing fresh fruits, veggies and herbs right outside their door. Funding will be utilized to support staff salaries for the GRuB Garden Project.
Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH Food Bank & Community Services
Program: Operations – Financial Aid and Fresh Food Purchases
100% of the grant funds received will go toward support of their financial aid program and to purchase fresh foods.
Living Well Kent Collaborative
Program: Advancing Healthy Food Access
Funding specifically will be used to address food-insecurity to socially isolated older adults, as well as low income populations with barriers to food access in order to stay fed and healthy during the coronavirus crisis.
Program: General Operating
Funding will be used to support the purchase of food, staff salaries and other direct program expenses including cleaning supplies, hygiene supplies, and other essential household items.
Program: Growing Connections
The purpose of Growing Connection is to increase access to healthy fresh food among food-insecure families. Grant funds will be used to secure diverse and culturally appropriate fresh produce from Northwest Harvest farm partners for the 2021 growing season.
Program: Mobile Food Bank Operations
Funding would help to support the salaries for two Mobile Food Bank Managers, who are required to maintain a Commercial Driver’s License. Funds would also provide the necessary fuel, maintenance and repairs to keep the mobiles running efficiently and safely.
Program: Backpacks 4 Kids
Backpack 4 Kids identifies hungry children and supplies them with child-friendly food items that are easy to open and prepare. Funding will make it possible for them to continue to feed over 300 children every week.
Program: COVID-19 Response General Support: Operations/Food
This grant will help Puyallup Food Bank purchase healthy, nutritious food and cover critical operational expenses essential to keeping the lights on, doors open and refrigerators cold.
Puyallup Valley St. Francis House
Program: Meal Program
The single purpose of this program is to serve those who are hungry in our community. grant funds will be used for program support and expenses (including expenses of running and maintaining a van used solely for the Meal Program).
Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation
Program: Neighbors Feeding Neighbors
Neighbors Feeding Neighbors programs will ensure that seniors, veterans, youth and families get the food they need on a regular basis and at no cost to them. Grant dollars will be used specifically to purchase food and food supplies (80%) and to cover a portion of the part-time cook’s salary (20%).
Catholic Community Services of Western Washington
Program: Volunteer Services
Volunteer Services of Kitsap, Thurston, and Pierce County provide transportation for low-income seniors and people with disabilities who live in rural areas of the counties. Volunteers are reimbursed mileage, receive training, and recognition for door to door transportation to their clients in need. Clients are provided with transportation to medical, dental, mental health, and other necessities on a first-come, first-serve basis. Funds would be used for mileage reimbursement to volunteer drivers and replenish safety kits for drivers’ vehicles.

Children’s International Health Relief
Program: Your Health Matters COVID-19 Prevention Program for Communities of Color
The goal of Children’s International Health Relief (CIHR) is to initiate a Your Health Matters COVID-19 Prevention Program for Communities of Color in the Hilltop neighborhood to address health literacy and disease prevention. Funds will be used for health promotion COVID-19 materials, oral health and medical supplies, assist with stipends for health educators.
Crystal Judson Family Justice Center
Program: Domestic Violence Victim Support
The funds will be used to pay for additional hours for a skilled domestic violence advocate at the CJFJC for services to survivors including the provision of a support group.
Program: Strong Foundations for Every Kid
EBC’s program provides essential goods to families through agencies in public health, shelters, transitional, rapid and rehousing programs, early learning programs, maternal infant health programs and domestic violence programs. Funds will provide general operating support to allow EBC to maintain service and distribution to their current partners and expand their services.
Eatonville Area Council/Eatonville Family Agency
Program: Foodbank Support
The Eatonville Family Agency is the major hunger-relief organization of Eatonville area and southeast Pierce County. Funds would be used to buy fresh food, extend hours and employ staff to handle the caseloads and food distribution.
The Evergreen State College Foundation
Program: Evergreen Basic Needs Center
Funding will support the proposed creation of a new one-stop service center where Evergreen students and members of the surrounding community can come to meet their basic needs. This grant would be used for initial set up and staffing of the center in the identified location.
Program: Increasing Relational Health to Mitigate the Impacts of Trauma
This grant will be used to fund the planning, coordination, staffing, and marketing materials needed to develop and implement the mini-grant program. The majority of the funds will be used to provide mini grants to early program providers in Pierce County, which they can use to strengthen relationships with children and families and mitigate the impacts of trauma.
Program: Culturally Responsive Integrated and Strength-Based Parenting (CRISP)
Korean Women’s Association (KWA) requests funding to collaborate with MultiCare Center for Health Equity and Healthy Living to expand our Culturally Responsive Integrated and Strength-Based Parenting (CRISP) program. Funds would be used to utilize preventive health educators and nutritionists from MultiCare Center for Health Equity and Healthy Living to help us co-deliver interactive education sessions for the CRISP program.
Lutheran Community Services NW
Program: Senior Companion Program
This proposal will support The Senior Companion Program (SCP) at Lutheran Community Services NW. The SCP is a nationally funded Senior Corps program offered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. LCSNW is the only host agency in Pierce County for this program. Funds would be used to sustain recruitment & retention efforts for volunteers.
Program: Mobile Oral Health Clinics – MultiCare
Funds would cover the expenses of holding Medical Teams’ mobile clinics in partnership with MultiCare, providing free restorative and urgent dental care to low-income and marginalized adults over a 12-month period.
Program: Hot Shop Heroes
The purpose of Hot Shop Heroes is to help soldiers and veterans deal with recurrent behavior issues generated by traumatic experiences or series illnesses. Funds will go to providing direct programming that will reach more than 96 soldiers and veterans a year, by providing glassmaking classes in the Museum of Glass Hot Shop.
The Mustard Seed Project of Key Peninsula
Program: Essential Services for Elders on the Key Peninsula
The Mustard Seed Project’s goal is to help seniors on the Key Peninsula who need their services with programs to help them live safely in their chosen community. Their focus areas include information and referral, transportation, health and wellness, senior housing options, and community education on aging. This grant would support operating funds to support the programs and services previously described.
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Washington
Program: Mental Health Youth Outreach Initiative: Puget Sound Region
Funding would provide for community outreach, training for Ending the Silence (EtS) presenters, and for conferences and summits centered on best practices.
Program: Healthcare for the Underserved
Neighborhood Clinic is a volunteer-driven, free walk-in urgent care clinic. $10,000 on funding would support operational expenses: personnel, facilities, medical and clinic supplies, cleaning supplies and PPEs, patient materials, and office supplies.
Prescription Drug Assistance Foundation
Program: Prescription Drug Assistance Network
This program provides personalized prescription assistance to low and moderate-income individuals in the Puget Sound Region. Funding will support the ongoing one-on-one assistance services provided to patients and training for care managers and providers.
Program: Connecting the 50+ LGBTQ Community in the South Sound
Through education, advocacy, and celebration, the Rainbow Center expands resources and safe space for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied (LGBTQA) community. Funds will be used to build a contact list of 100 or more LGBTQ people ages 50+ in the South Sound, create partnerships, provide healthcare, and develop new events.
Program: COVID-19 Response and Health Promotion for the Somali Community
Funds will be used to cover $15,000 in direct program costs that include the program staff’s time, program supplies, contractors that do the on-ground work of our services, food or supplies, meeting space, transportation, insurance, and data collection expenses.
Program: Clinic Operations
The Trinity Neighborhood Clinic provides free healthcare services for individuals in the Hilltop Neighborhood. Expenses covered by the requested funds will be used to cover the costs of medications provided to patients, facilities, equipment, and administrative expenses.
Wonderland Child & Family Services
Program: Hope RISING Clinic
Wonderland’s Hope RISING Clinic for Prenatal Substance Exposure and the Boundless Program housed in it opened in 2019. HRC is one of the first clinics of its kind in the nation specializing in diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol. Grant funds will be used to close the gap between the cost of services and insurance fees we receive.
Program: Health Care Access
YWCA’s Health Care Access (HCA) program provides health insurance enrollment, education and health care linkages to low-income, underserved, and hard-to-reach populations, including those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Funds would be used to support the work of their health care advocates.
Associated Ministries of Tacoma-Pierce County
Program: Community Resource Connection Center
The Community Resource Connection Center (CRCC) is a hub of qualified individuals, services and resources which address unique barriers to stability and help individuals and families maintain housing and avoid future homelessness. Funds will be used toward direct client services and resources.

Program: Interfaith Works Homeless Services
Interfaith Works Homeless Services addresses the Thurston County region’s housing crisis, and formally declared public health emergency of homelessness, by reducing the vulnerability of those currently homeless. Funds will support the general operations of Interfaith Works Homeless Services, which includes three core programs: The Emergency Shelters Program (ESP), the Community Care Center (CCC), and the Navigation Team (NT).
Rebuilding Together South Sound
Program: Community Revitalization Partnership
Rebuilding Together South Sound provides free home repairs to low-income homeowners who are elderly, disabled, or families living with children. Funds from this grant will be used to support the Safe at Home and Rebuilding Day programs through the purchase of materials and/or services needed to complete repairs or modifications for low-income homeowners.
Rebuilding Together Thurston County
Program: Critical Repairs Program
RTTC requests $5,000 from the MultiCare Community Partnership Fund to help fund their Critical Repairs Program and provide emergency repairs for homeowners in need. Half of the funds ($2,500) will go to purchasing building materials and paying fees, such as for permits and trips to the dump. The other half ($2,500) will go towards personnel costs for the Critical Repairs Program Coordinator.
Program: Homeless Shelter and Assistance
Funding will support the successful operation of The Rescue Mission’s Men’s Emergency Shelter, Family Shelter, and the Good News Cafe Meal Kitchens, as well as the newly constructed Women’s Shelter.
Program: Aftercare: Connecting Survivors of Exploitation with Safe Housing
This grant will be used to provide funds for the Aftercare program, which provides case management, housing advocacy and referrals, and tangible supplies such as household move-in items to survivors of sexual exploitation.
Program: Financial Counseling for Homelessness Prevention
Funds from MultiCare would be used primarily for program support for Financial Counseling and Homelessness Prevention programming efforts. Sound Outreach is ready to help low- and fixed-income individuals recover from the COVID-19-related economic crisis.
South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity
Program: Critical Home Repairs Project (CHRP)
The core objective for CHRP is to restore safety and health to the homes of 60 low- to moderate-income household residents by completing 20 critical home repair projects in 2020, helping residents avoid displacement and homelessness. Grant funds will be used to support the salary for the Repairs Program Director.
St. Vincent de Paul Holy Family Conference
Program: SVdP – Emergency Services
Funds will be used exclusively to prevent clients from being evicted from their residences or having their utilities terminated. The funds are paid directly to the landlords/mortgage holder or utility companies by SVDP to prevent the eviction or utility termination. Serving Auburn, Pacific, Algona.
St. Vincent de Paul Kent/Covington
Program: Emergency Assistance for Essential Needs
The purpose of the grant is to help provide emergency assistance in the Kent/Covington area to meet the growing demand for essential needs of families.
St. Vincent de Paul Tacoma-Pierce County
Program: St. Vinnie’s Homelessness Prevention & Basic Needs Program
The purpose of St. Vinnie’s Homelessness Prevention & Basic Needs Program is to helps individuals and families struggling to pay for basic needs by providing direct financial assistance. The grant will be specifically used to help individuals and families who are stretched beyond their means to pay for basic needs, such as rent, utilities, gas and food. We are also funding a significant amount in motel vouchers.
Step By Step Family Support Center
Program: Emergency Services Program
The purpose of the Emergency Services Program is to make funds available to help clients with rent, utilities, transportation needs, and other supportive services in order to keep families safe and secure in their homes. One hundred percent of the requested grant funds will be used for program support.
Tacoma-Pierce County Habitat for Humanity
Program: Affordable Housing in Pierce County
While Tacoma-Pierce County Habitat for Humanity continues to partner with future homeowners and build new homes, they are also expanding and developing new programs and initiatives to address the dynamic needs of the community. Funding from MultiCare will be used for General Operating support, including programs: Homeownership, Financial/Housing Counseling, Aging in Place.
Program: Building Strong Families
This grant will provide critical funding necessary to increase the number of parents and kids VMP can serve. VMP will provide homelessness prevention services for more families while they work toward stability, as well as life-skills classes, financial literacy, and workforce development to equip parents with the tools they need to maintain permanent safe and stable housing for their families.
